Prekladateľ Samo Marec: Ako vznikol slovenský preklad knihy Wellness

Some books quietly appear and disappear. Others will cause a stir.

Wellness by Nathan Hill falls into the latter category. The novel, which was a great success with readers and critics, became the subject of discussions, recommendations and enthusiastic reactions. And now we bring something special to it - a conversation with its Slovak translator.

We invite you to a meeting with Sam Marc, who is behind the Slovak version of this distinctive title. You will have the opportunity to look into the translation work, into the process of finding the right words, tone and rhythm, which transferred the story from English to Slovak. How do you translate a novel full of gentle humor, generational insights, partner conflicts and cultural references? Where does the text stick to the original and where does the translator have to create anew?

Wellness is the story of two people who are united by youthful love, common dreams and the belief that they will live differently than the generations before them. It is a novel about love in the 21st century, about the desire to be a better person and how we are shaped by the stories we tell about ourselves.

During the evening you can also learn more about Sam Marc's previous translation work, about the titles he worked on, and about what fascinates him about this profession and what, on the contrary, can torment him.

Important information: the book is currently sold out. If you have it at home, don't forget to bring it with you - Samo Marec will surely be happy to sign it for you.

Come and see the novel from the other side. From the one where words are not born, but re-created.
