About event
His best friend Sergei Rachmaninoff said about Medtner that he was the greatest composer of his time.
Ekaterina Levental and Frank Peters together form the Medtner Project and present the 5th and final Medtner album 'Sacred Place' from the cycle Nikolai Medtner, Complete Songs. By releasing this CD they complete a project they have been working on for 7 years; a unique and first complete recording of the songs of Nikolai Medtner (1880-1951).
Medtner shows enormous refinement in text handling, form and harmony in his 113 songs. He works like he's cutting diamonds. His works form a treasure of exceptional beauty and meaning in the song repertoire. During this concert you will hear songs from the latest album and previous CDs. Music full of hope and despair, longing and melancholy, themes such as eternity and transience, strength and vulnerability. Based on texts by Goethe, Nietzsche, Pushkin, Chutchev and Fet, among others. And you will hear his exceptional vocals in which he sets wordless communication as his first goal. Medtner's fervent wish was to understand each other in the universal language of music.
The Medtner Project has set itself the goal of promoting this.
