The works with which Kirill Petrenko opens the new season sound full and magnificent. However, under the shining surface, mysterious messages are hidden: Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations not only treat a sensitive theme, but also - musically encoded - portray the composer's friends and family members. Peter Tchaikovsky, on the other hand, intersects his Fourth Symphony with the "motif of fate" - as a symbol of his own life crisis.
🤵Performance:
Berlin Philharmonic
Kiril Petrenko, conductor
🎼Program:
Edward Elgar
Enigma, Variations on the Original Theme Op. 36
