d 2025 * Documentation * Director * with: Angel Blue, Valerie Eickhoff, Renata Scotto and others * 93 min. FSK 0 * English/Italian with German Subtitles
Juliane Sauters cinema documentary Primadonna or Nothing accompanies three singers on their way and observes the dedication and passion that the opera world demands from them. Valerie Eickhoff from Germany is only at the beginning. Dissatisfied with her position as a second line -up, she decides to take part in her first international competition. Angel Joy Blue lives life that Valerie dreams of: the American Grammy winner sings on the largest stages worldwide. After 15 years of career without a break, Angel recognizes the dark side of fame. The legendary soprano Renata Scotto has already passed this trip. In her hometown Savona, she looks back on a life in the spotlight. And although she can no longer sing, she is still willing to give everything for the opera world. The film is an intimate portrait of the dream of grasping the stars and gives rare insights into the life of three artists, their fights, triumphs and the dedication to the art of opera. (Rental)
