About event
2nd nominated for the prize of the year: Christian Bök
Christian Charles Bök born Christian Book, on August 10, 1966, in Toronto in the province of Ontario (Canada), is an author, poet, photographer of the poetic avant-garde. After having lived in the province of Alberta (Canada) where he taught English literature at the University of Calgary, he is now a professor at Charles Darwin University in Australia.
Bök became known for Crystallography (1994, revised in 2003). Inspired by pataphysical thought, the book consists of a combination of various kinds of poems, including concrete and visual poetry, pseudo-historical texts, diagrams, paintings and English gematics. Eunoia (2001), which he took seven years to write, consists of lipograms using a single vowel in each of his five chapters - obviously inspired by writing strategies with the constraints of the Oulipo group.
