Radicalization, dangers and cult-like structures

The lecture takes a look at so-called pro-ana communities in which eating disorders are glorified and presented as a lifestyle. The main question is why young people in particular feel attracted to such groups and what factors make them particularly vulnerable. The dangers of this scene are also highlighted: self-proclaimed “coaches” manipulate those affected into ever more extreme weight loss. It is not uncommon for scene members to become victims of sexual abuse.

**Jasmina Eifert** is a psychologist (M.Sc.) and works in the clinical and legal psychology areas. Her main areas of interest and research include personality and trauma-related disorders, therapy evaluation and stigmatization research as well as radicalization processes in conflict-prone groups and the prevention of child abuse.

**Format**
