About event
The original farce in one meeting with the opera, the world premiere
In 2024, 200 years have passed since the birth of Bedřich Smetana - a music composer who laid the foundations of Czech music and in a wider context and Czech culture. As part of the year of Czech music, the Smetana200 program will be held throughout the country, whose basic objective is to celebrate the personality of Bedřich Smetana and his works, the spread of awareness of his music and in this context and promotion of the painting of the Czech Republic as a country with huge musical and cultural potential. Not only in connection with this anniversary, the Brno City Theater decided to look at one of the most famous Smetana works with its own optics and for the new premiere in the bishop's court chose a comic singing bride. In 1883, the official, journalist, publicist and editor of textile letters Vilém Černický wrote one -act comedy called Why we would not be looking forward. The game was dedicated to the team of the Czech National Theater in Brno, which at that time has been actively trying to create conditions for the creation of an independent Brno theater playing regularly in Czech in terms of culture, almost exclusively German. Brides. Just a few hours before the announced premiere, however, the ensemble loses the leading soloist, and so the Vostrovský Council, together with the director Koubek, must quickly look for the leading role of Jeník. But it would not be a proper comedy if the family problems did not affect artistic. The landowner's daughter Ludmilka wants to marry a young man who does not have his father's support, the landlord's wife runs out with theater amateur actors who are expanding to the economy, patience and Baron Jesenický arrives. There is no shortage of comic situations, and the prodan is still trying without the main tenor. But if everything goes well, spectators in the bishop's court will also see everything they like about their favorite operas. The production promises to offer singing classics in attractive design and for the audience that this genre usually does not look for. Igor Ondříček directed the ensemble and orchestra of the Brno City Theater on the summer scene under the towers of Petrov.
