Conference Why aren't we all visible? Identity and diversity in textbooks.

We cordially invite you to the conference called Why are we not all visible? Identity and diversity in textbooks, which will take place on November 19, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. in the premises of the Open Garden, Údolní 33, Brno.

The conference on textbooks is aimed at pedagogues, authors of textbooks, publishers and publishers, representatives of ministries and educational institutions, academics in the field of pedagogy and students of pedagogical faculties, with the aim of supporting exchange of experiences and professional discussion about innovations in educational materials.

You can look forward to inspiring lectures that will guide you from the problematic aspects of creating textbooks in the Czech Republic, through specific recommendations for their creation, critical intersectional reflection of Czech textbooks, to a practical workshop focused on inclusive and sensitive illustration of textbooks.

Results of the international project focused on on the analysis of Czech textbooks and their inclusivity.

Lecture: Issues of evaluation of selected social science textbooks in terms of curriculum trends – Dušan Klapko
The presentation will focus on evaluation textbooks in terms of curricular trends, institutional anchoring of social issues and the influence of the socio-economic environment on the aspirations of female pupils and pupils.

📍 lecturer Tomáš Ščuka: He specializes in the legal status of Roma, especially in the areas of education of Roma children, anti-gypsyism and Roma participation. Tomáš worked for the European Parliament and the European Commission, first for the parliamentary group of Socialists and Democrats and then participated in the creation of a report on the situation of Roma in Europe. As part of the Inschool program of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, he worked as an educational consultant in selected Czech schools with the aim of supporting an inclusive environment for Roma pupils. He is the author of research that focused on the presentation of Roma in school textbooks. Founder of Romani hub, a Roma platform of experts that tries to draw attention to the status quo, with the aim of improving the life of Roma in Europe.

📍 lecturer Markéta Štěpánová: in the organization Gender Studies, o.p.s. she coordinated projects focused on multiple discrimination, family policy or reconciliation of personal and work life. In recent years, she has been dedicated to gender-sensitive education and training, leads workshops on the topic of gender stereotypes and their manifestations in the educational system, presents tools that help in promoting individualization and equality in education. She led the project Education for respect and tolerance: from teachers to children. She is currently dedicated to women's history and making it available to the general public, including children, as part of the project From Eliška Krásnohorská to Jiřina Šiklová: in the footsteps of women's education.

📍 lecturer Martin Tománek: teaches in a children's group for children from excluded locations. He is a member of Sdružen, a feminist collective promoting, among other things, intersectional feminism. He is the author of articles such as "The school as a sadistic overseer of social inequalities. How to free children?" or "The school is a workshop! How we demolished the patriarchy together at the Feminist School."

📍 lecturer Hana Grygarová: She is a graduate of MU psychology. She played and sometimes still plays as a DJ. She is an activist for the human rights of people with disabilities and deals with an independent life without violence.

📍lecturer Dušan Klapko: in teaching, he deals with social theories, social inclusion, the history of social pedagogy, methodological approaches and experiential pedagogy courses. In his research, he focuses on the analysis of textbooks, the analysis of power discourses in the area of ​​socialization of Roma children, the effects of theater in education and also the effects of experiential learning.

📍 lecturer Alena Brunhilda Burneleit: is the creative mind behind the Brunhilda brand - a brand that promotes creativity and fairness. Her mission is to help individuals and organizations share their stories in a way that is true to who they are. She had the honor of working with clients such as Lamy, Vodafone, Konsent, Prague Pride, Molekuly and Loono - organizations that manage their brands and build relationships with respect for diversity.
