About event
The Vinohrady Cemetery will celebrate 140 years this year! The Vinohrady cemetery, founded in 1885, is one of the most important Prague burial grounds, the number of buried (over 55,000) is even the largest after the Olšany cemeteries. Originally it served for the inhabitants of Královské Vinohrady. They were at that time a rapidly developing independent and life -in -the -day life in which a number of writers, musicians, actors, artists and other personalities of public life, often also international importance lived. During our walk we will commemorate many of them, such as sculptors Otto Gutfreund, architect Jan Kotěra, Fráň Zemínová, Jiří Grossmann, Jaroslav Foglar, Emil Hácha, Eliška Junková, Jiří Kolář, Jiří Šlitr and many others. Inside the cemetery complex is the Neo -Gothic Church of St. Wenceslas, in whose outer cloak we can also find the tomb of the family of President Václav Havel, who was buried here in 2011. The meeting of the participants is in front of the main gate (stop of the Vinohrady cemetery). Children under 12 years of age including free admission and without registration. Buying on the spot is not possible.
