Event by: Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung
Location: Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Straße der Pariser Kommune 8A, Berlin - Bezirk Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
About event
Independent press in Israel and Palestine
Press freedom in Israel has been dramatically restricted in recent years: journalists are prevented from working, critical voices are marginalized, and independent media are put under pressure. At the same time, independent editorial teams in the country are countering this - with courageous journalism as a contribution to strengthening progressive voices at home and abroad.
«+972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism» (ACJ) is one of the leading independent media platforms in Israel and Palestine. With the news sites +972 Magazine (English) and Local Call (Hebrew), Israeli and Palestinian journalists report together for an audience of millions - and defy growing authoritarianism and censorship.
We discuss the major challenges and dangers that media professionals in Israel are exposed to today more than ever and what potential impact these restrictions have on critical reporting in Germany about the situation in Israel and Palestine.
Ours Guests:
Ghousoon Bisharat, editor-in-chief of 972-ACJ, more than 25 years of experience in journalism, communication and international cooperation
Dr. Dana Mills, 972-ACJ resource manager, political scientist, author of several books, including: a biography about Rosa Luxemburg
Moderation: Gil Shohat, head of the Israel office of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Tel Aviv
With simultaneous interpretation from English to German
A cooperation event between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and +972 – Advancement of Citizen Journalism.
