About the film
The film Tancuj, Matyldo in life roles with Karl Roden and Regina Rázlová, inspired by a real event, opened in theaters on November 30, 2023. The creators of the film are the screenwriter Nataša Slavíkova and the director and screenwriter Petr Slavík. At first glance, the seemingly hopeless situation when Matylda develops Alzheimer's disease turns the family's life upside down, but by not giving up, they do something important for Matylda and for themselves.
"He is currently suffering in the Czech 150,000 people with dementia and 100,000 of them with Alzheimer's disease. In addition to them, however, there are several hundreds of thousands of people who have a mild cognitive impairment, which can also be the initial stage of Alzheimer's disease," said neurologist Jakub Hort
Tailored support for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease is brought by the Senorina Center - For caregivers. This year, they expanded the diverse range of topics especially for family caregivers, who have been trying to approach them through various channels for many years, with discussions with regional experts throughout the Czech Republic. Together with Nataša Slavíková and the film Tancuj Matyldo, they provide answers to specific questions and connect caregivers with health and social support in their place of residence. Already in the spring, they toured several cities in the Czech Republic, where most of them were sold out.
“It turns out that even such a serious topic is of interest to people. The assumption that the audience just wants to have fun because times are hard, and no one will come to a film with a difficult theme, is not true," says Nataša Slavíková, the screenwriter and producer of the film. Without the help of various non-profits, it is very difficult to manage things about living with Alzheimer's disease. This was worth the decision to work on this topic in the film. The film shows the fate of people whose work is undervalued. She is not valued socially or financially. The goal of the discussions they organize in different cities is education in the regions. They want to point out the function of caregivers and try to improve the situation, show how deep the problem is. "I also went around dozens of other people who gave me insight into their destinies. The movie is authentic. What we wrote in the script, we didn't make it up out of hand, but it is about the experiences of families who went through it," states Nataša Slavíková, who wrote the script together with her husband Petr Slavík. He directed that film.
Already during the making of the film, Nataša Slavíková had the intention of following up the premiere with an educational and support campaign for those caring for loved ones with dementia. In this plan, she met the mission of the Seňorina Center and therefore we decided together with her and the filmmakers to spread this topic to audiences outside of Prague as part of an awareness campaign. Co-screenwriter and producer Nataša Slavíková, who is not only a co-author of the film, but also has personal experience as a family carer, which she used in the film, will be present in each pre-negotiated city after the screening of the film. In the panel discussion, there will always be a representative from the ranks of doctors (neurologist, psychiatrist...), a representative from the social service, and in some cities actors from the film will also take part. The debates will be moderated by Jarka Švarcbachová, founder and chairwoman of the Seňorina Center.
