About event
Mr. Biják invites you to One Second!
(Director: Zhang Yimou, 2020, 104 minutes)
A moving story that blew us from the depths of the Chinese desert.
The Great Cultural Revolution is underway in China. A man who has escaped from a labor camp to watch a film weekly runs into an orphaned girl. Both are united by an interest in one particular film reel, which, however, is also needed by a local cinematographer, called Mr. Biják.
Extraordinary desert environment, dust and drought, Lin Pia's preface from the Red Book present at every corner. The Chinese people are under the harsh rule of the Communist Party. The drama about a man who risks his life for a single frame of film brings a deep reflection on memory, film and hope.
What is the meaning of film in the dark ages? What is his political power? How is film strip even cared for? How is it cleaned? How can one reel of film connect an entire village? We will look for answers to these and other questions on Tuesday 15 October
Don't leave after the movie yet! Our dear guest Martin Veselý, a student of media research and analytics at the Faculty of Social Studies of the MU and the editor-in-chief of the student journalistic website Korektiv.cz, will tell us about the current situation around the Scala cinema.
It will once again be possible to leave messages and letters in support of Scala. A box for voluntary contributions will also be prepared. As a thank you, you can take away pancakes or postcards.
We look forward to seeing you!
