About event
Suitable for students from the 10th grade
Note on registration: We ask every student to register themselves.

In systems biology, natural scientists, bioinformaticians and experts from other disciplines develop an overall understanding of biological processes at the cellular and molecular level. One goal of this collaboration is to ultimately be able to make predictions about how factors influence biological processes. By linking experimental results with the mathematical representation on the computer, processes can be described and simulated precisely.
In the systems biology project week, the students will investigate the growth of E. coli with various sugar additives in the laboratory. The LacZ operon regulates the expression of ß-galactosidase, which enables the breakdown of lactose (milk sugar) as a food source. The activity of the ß-galactosidase is monitored in the photometer. The experimental results are evaluated on the computer and growth models are modeled.
The week ends with a presentation of the results and the handover of the certificates. You can submit the participant certificate when applying and use the results for the 5th PK.
