Greenland without cliche
Greenland, the largest island in the world, has been part of Denmark for centuries. Formerly a colony, now an autonomous territory inhabited by a nation eyeing independence. The complex relationship between Greenland and Denmark is influenced not only by Greenland's economic dependence on Denmark and Denmark's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, but also by a number of prejudices and stereotypes. We learn about Greenland only sporadically from our media, we also do not travel there regularly, and Greenlandic books, films or music still reach us slowly. But what is Greenland like and what are its inhabitants like?

THE HAPPY LAND (Lykkelænder, Denmark/Greenland, 2018, 72 min)

Documentary film by a Danish director Lasse Lau gives space to the voices of local residents, whatever is on their minds, and at the same time the silence of long shots of the majestic Greenlandic landscape. There is also Greenlandic rap, a pig on wheels and other perhaps surprising but completely authentic shots from a country that everyone has heard of, but few outsiders really know.
The screening will be preceded by an introduction by Zdenek Lyčka about Greenland Danish relations and Greenlandic culture.
