In the first reading, the Parliament approved the completely outrageous proposal of the government, which is supposed to increase the annual state contribution to the churches by additional millions. The government thus literally buys the support of the churches.
According to the current proposal, the churches are to receive approximately three million euros next year, which means 63.7 million euros, for 2026 it is 69.8 million euros and for 2027 it is almost 80 million euros! Even without this change, according to the law, the state contribution to churches continues to increase automatically - despite the decreasing number of believers.
We consider this unacceptable and absolutely unfair to all citizens who do not belong to any of the 18 registered churches. The financial dependence of the churches on the state must be reduced and not increased even more.
Before the second reading of the proposal, we are therefore preparing a protest action, which will take place on Sunday 24 November 2024 at 15:00 in the park above the garages in front of the NR SR , with us. Alexander Dubček in Bratislava.
At the protest, the following will make speeches:
Miroslav Žiak, member of the NR SR in the period 2020-2023 (SaS)
Miroslav Kocúr, executive director of the AOMEGA Institute
Beáta Jurík, Member of the NR SR (PS)
In addition, we will read a message from Jana Cigániková, the only member of the NR SR who voted against the amendment of this law in the first reading.
