About event
You know Pensioner (today Radost). But do you really know it?
After its completion in 1934, the iconic functionalist building by the leading avant-garde architects josef Havlíček and Karel Honzík made an indelible mark on the panorama of Žižkov and the whole of Prague. It is also a fascinating story of its creation, accompanied by disputes, twists and turns and an intensifying economic crisis.
How did the then twenty-nine-year-old architects manage to obtain such an important contract? Why does the building have the iconic ceramic cladding? And why did steel and reinforced concrete clash during its construction? Participants will learn all this and much more on a guided tour with architect Jan Bureš.
The tour includes a visit to the building's interiors and roof.
