Psychic Liberation (PL) is a label founded in 2013 that was originally run by Miguel Alvariño under the title Primitive Languages as a cassette and record store project in New York City. Since 2019, Nick Klein has been running it solo from the EU under the name Psychic Liberation. The concert series of the same name takes place in the dome hall with changing guests.
Lisa Ullén
Lisa Ullén is one of Sweden's most influential pianists in the free jazz and improvisation scene as well as in contemporary music.
I make music that doesn't actually belong to any known genre, but moves between, through and outside of different idioms - jazz, new music and more - until an independent genre emerges. This music comes from the experience of not really belonging anywhere, of standing between identities and traditions; Music that takes up melodic and rhythmic fragments but refuses to settle into already existing forms of expression. – Lisa Ullén
Ullén was born in Seoul and grew up in northern Sweden. In 2018 she was awarded the prestigious Jazz Composer of the Year award by Swedish Radio. She lives and works in Berlin and Stockholm.
Jiyoung Wi
Jiyoung Wi will present a performance that sees improvisation as a form of “negative virtuosity”. The focus is on the dynamics between control (and its failure), chance and the constant redefinition of physical boundaries. Jiyoung Wi (she/her) is a musician, improvisation artist and writer of fictional texts who commutes between Rotterdam and Seoul.
Her polarized practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based media. She has developed a series of “sound fiction” works that explore the careful interaction between sound and text. As a self-criticizing improviser, she confronts the thresholds of sonic immediacy through her negative virtuosity and risky gestures.

Lisa Ullén
Lisa Ullén is one of Sweden’s most influential pianists in the free jazz and improvisational scene, as well as in contemporary music.
I make music that does not really belong to any known genre, but shifts between, through and outside various idioms — jazz, new music, and more — until a distinct genre nevertheless emerges. This is music that stems from an experience of not really belonging to anything, of being in between identities and traditions; music that makes use of melodic and rhythmical fragments but refuses to settle within expressions that already exist – Lisa Ullén
Born in Seoul, Ullén grew up in the northern part of Sweden. In 2018, the Swedish Radio awarded Ullén the most prestigious Jazz Composer of the Year. She shares time between Berlin and Stockholm.
Jiyoung Wi
Jiyoung Wi will present a performance that frames improvisation as a form of ‘negative virtuosity’, emphasizing the dynamics between control (and its failure), chance, and the continual redefinition of physical limits. Jiyoung Wi (she/her) is a musician/improviser and fiction writer floating between Rotterdam and Seoul.
Her polarized practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based mediums. She has developed a series of ‘sound fiction’ works focusing on the tentative reciprocity between sound and text. As a self-punitive improviser, through her negative virtuosity and risk-taking gestures, she confronts the thresholds of sonic immediacy.
