QRchestra

The QRchestra ensemble announces a concert audition for mobile phone players. Participatory sound performance.

Everyone has a phone in their pocket or hand bag, i.e. a small computer, display, camera, microphone or speaker. A device that includes basic technologies for media interpretation, reproduction and participation. Performance QRchestra uses this interface for concert and listening situations. Its participants take on the role of players in an orchestra that does not play from the score, but from QR (Quick Response) codes.

With each presentation of the performance, a new group of performers and a new constellation of relationships with their personal devices emerge. This symbiosis of man and machine includes participants together as spectators, listeners, performers and authors, but also participants as campers, tramps, tourists, diggers, farmers, cyclists or city dwellers. New orientation systems are being created in the use of mobile phones. People move in their information space of data flows like the streets of cities. Whether they're at a crossroads, by a campfire in the woods, or in a cave, they're still in the ether, surrounded by kilobits of a quivering media field.
