About event

The leading Czech painter Jan Zrzavý lived the life of a gay man quite openly throughout his life: he did not try to have relationships with women, after a series of bitter love disappointments between his twenties and thirties, he decided to live single with random, rather physical, acquaintances. How was his otherness reflected in his work, what opportunities did an LGBT+ person have to live an open and fulfilled life, what queer life models existed and what queer life model does Zrzavý himself represent? And how did his otherness try to retouch the history of art during his lifetime, but also after his death?

The lecture will be given by Ladislav Jackson, an art historian, who works at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the BUT in Brno and at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia. Since 2023, the Society for Queer Memory has been leading.
