About event
For centuries queer people had to hide. The Vienna Central Cemetery preserves their traces - and on this Vienna Pride Walk we make them visible and tangible. Because the absence of queer history is not a coincidence, but the result of systematic erasure. We counter this forgetting with remembrance and appropriation.
The Central Cemetery is a place of remembrance - of people who loved, lived and suffered courageously, but whose stories remained invisible for far too long and should never have disappeared from memory. This Vienna Pride Walk brings them back.
This walk will be interpreted in Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS).
What awaits you?
Hidden Stories We explore the final resting places of personalities who shaped Vienna's queer history - world-famous names like Eduard van der Nüll, Franz Schubert, the Wittgenstein family and Marcel Prawy to moving fates that are less in the spotlight.
Stories of survival Learn about courageous people who lived their queer identity despite persecution and repression - and about those whose memory we particularly honor on this walk.
Remembrance & Homage Queer history of Vienna, which has a lot was invisible for too long - rediscovered, told and remembered together.
For whom? Anyone who wants to discover queer history, city history and Vienna off the beaten path - whether alone, with friends or as a group.
