About event
For centuries queer people had to hide. Margareten is preserving her traces – and on this Vienna Pride Walk we are making them visible and tangible. Because the absence of queer history is not a coincidence, but the result of systematic erasure. We respond to this forgetting with memory and appropriation.
The fifth district is a place where queer history and the labor movement are closely intertwined - from persecution and resistance to the roots of the Rainbow Parade. Stories that remained invisible for far too long and should never have disappeared from memory. This Vienna Pride Walk brings them back.
What awaits you?
Workers' movement & queer historyWe explore the connections between the workers' movement, social democracy and homosexuality in the proletarian-dominated Margareten - and find out how the lives of gay and lesbian people were often marked by persecution.
People & Fates The history of so-called small and simple people – brave, vulnerable and resistant. We give their stories the space they deserve.
Awakening & Movement In the fifth district, not only the younger gay movement but also the Rainbow Parade were launched. We visit the places where queer history was written - starting from Qwien.
For whom? Anyone who wants to discover queer history, city history and Vienna off the beaten path - whether alone, with friends or as a group.
