Max Diehm presents his debut novel “What Remains in the Dark” and, following the reading, gives insights into the creation of the book in a personal conversation.
About the book
Aaron, a city dweller, agrees to move to his home village for the sake of his partner. But for Aaron, country life means a completely new, strange world. While his friend Sebastian quickly finds his way back to his usual working life and family structures, Aaron feels increasingly uncomfortable in the village community. The apparent idyll of the village is deceptive, and Aaron discovers more and more dark secrets from the past. An oppressive feeling of threat grows, and the mysterious neighbor, who increasingly attracts Aaron's attention, causes additional unrest.
About the author
Max Diehm, born in Wertheim am Main in 1990, studied German and English in Heidelberg, Vienna and London after graduating from high school and doing community service. He had a teaching position at Yale University and now works as a German and English teacher at a high school. He lives with his husband and a cat at the foot of the northern Black Forest. His first novel “What Remains in the Dark” was published by cross-publishers in 2024.
