About event
Ramadan Night-Andalousic and Sufi music with Marmoucha Roots
iftar & Concert
On Sunday, March 9, 2025, Marmoucha Roots presents a special evening full of Andalusian and Sufi music in Podium Mosaïek, Amsterdam during Ramadan Night. This musical meeting offers a unique insight into a rich musical tradition, rooted in the region from Morocco to Afghanistan and the historic al-Andalus.
Ramadan Night is a moment of reflection, meeting and culture. Music, poetry and the power of tradition creates a special evening that emphasizes the diversity and common culture from this region.
about the concert
Marmoucha Roots offers a rich selection of classical and modern styles from Andalusian and Sufi music. These genres, deeply rooted in the music history of Morocco, continue to inspire and connect people to this day.
During the concert, Marmoucha Roots brings traditional music to life, with Tarab al-Andalousi, Qasidas and Muwashahat poems, who each tell their own story and rich history. Tarab al-Andalousi, created in the historic al-Andalus, is a music style that focuses on creating a deep emotional connection through musical expression and a wealth of melodies and rhythms.
In addition, Qasidas and Muwashahat are discussed. Qasidas are pre-classical Arab poems that often explore spiritual or philosophical themes. Muwashahat, poetic songs from the medieval al-Andalus, combine classical Arab poetry with local influences and are performed with traditional instruments. This ensures a special fusion of word and music.
Marmoucha Roots
Marmoucha Roots immerses itself in the Maqamat-the musical modes that express the different sounds and emotions of the Swana region. Each Maqam has its own atmosphere and character, which always gives a new perspective to the music.
Marmoucha Roots is a selection of musicians from the Marmoucha Orchestra, an ensemble of Virtuosoos musicians that combine modern influences with the musical traditions of Southwest-Basaa (Swana).
