About event
The Different Scale exhibition presents a selection of Rasť Sedlačík's works from continuously developing painting series created since 2022. Through a unified installation in the spaces of the White & Weiss gallery, works of different scales - from smaller paintings to expanded painting object formats - meet in one whole, which accentuates the author's long-term thematic focus.
Sedlačík systematically it reflects the situations, events and scenery of the urban landscape. Here, urbanity is not only a geographical environment, but also a dynamic experience that is transformed into visual records, fragments and pictorial constructions. The diversity of scale and the formal variability of the works create a space for observing how the language of painting can expand, gain volume and go beyond its own medium.
The Expanded Reunion platform – a long-term Sedlačík / Benčík / Lacko collaboration operating since 2015 – develops a specific work with a "gallery space" for each project. The installations are created as a reaction to a specific space, the parameters of the works and the possibilities of creating an environment that not only presents the painting, but at the same time expands it into the space. This expanded position of Sedlačík's work enables fluid manipulation of the works, which in many cases exceed the traditional two-dimensional boundaries of painting. The synergistic cooperation of the authors thus generates a whole, which is always formed anew depending on the place and context of the specific implementation.
Rastislav Sedlačík (1980) studied at the VŠVU in Bratislava, where he completed his doctoral studies in 2011. His work, the basis of which is painting, goes into an expanded field: images appear in the position of objects, performative and time-lapse elements enter it. At the same time, it presents it with more complex models such as installation or presentation environment. The central motif of the works are the nuances of the urban landscape, housing estates, but also the intermingling of the urban environment with the natural landscape in the so-called peripheries, at the same time they represent the mutual relationship between architecture and painting.
The author is represented in relevant gallery and private collections at home and abroad such as Linea Collection, Dobňák Collection, Slovak National Gallery, CSW Toruń, Poland and others. He works pedagogically at the Bratislava University of Fine Arts at the Department of Painting, starting in 2021 as the head of the 3EAM Studio / the third expanded painting studio.
