Straight up the Rax! The Ottohaus, located at an altitude of 1,644 m, has stood on the eastern summit of the Rax since 1893 and awaits tired hikers. The medical psychologist Sigmund Freud also climbed this route every summer to his favorite refuge. It's true that a lot of time has passed since then, but the kitchen at Ottohaus has been great ever since, whether it's steamed dumplings, Caesar crumbles or any kind of soup, you can't eat a bad meal here!
We start from Knappenberg (768 m), as Freund did, and reach the house after a three-hour march. (Tip: Those who have already done via ferrata can bring equipment with them. There is a secured rock under the house that can be conquered with a half-hour climb!)
Length of the tour: 11.4 km
Difference in level: 970 m up, the same amount down
Difficulty: medium, sometimes rocky terrain
Due to the varied terrain and the almost high mountain environment, it is worth wearing shoes with durable, non-slip soles and ankle support. The weather may be a little cooler, so a fleece jacket doesn't hurt if we have one with us. Since there may even be snow up there, you need a snowcat!
Participation fee: HUF 9,000 for association members, HUF 14,000 for "external" applicants
