🎨 Dear people, there is another Friday discussion party, this time about art! 🎨
The effort to define art is a challenge that employs human brains for centuries. From Aristotle's emphasis on Mimesis (imitation of reality) to modern theories emphasizing the cultural context and plurality of meanings.
But what is art? Why do we create it?
Is there something like "good" and "bad" art? Can you distinguish between more and less valuable art?
What is beauty? Where does the concept of beauty rises? To what extent is the beauty universal, and to what culturally conditioned?
Does the "good art" duty to communicate something? Or can it be completely "pointless" - purely aesthetic? And is the purely aesthetic art truly pointless?
Does the art of changing society too much? Or is it mirrors what is already happening?
Last year there was an amendment to the Act in the Czech Republic to allow for the official status of the artist. The state plans to allocate approximately 126 million crowns per year to support them. If some artists are financed from public funds, should they be assessed differently than those who form completely independently? And does such an art bears other moral responsibility to the public than art, who is not financed by the state?
What is the kitsch? Is the kitsch the opposite of art or its natural part?
