About event

In the program "Requiem Aeternam", the Lelikoor will perform choral music by four composers who gave their own interpretation to the Mass text. Peter Cornelius composed his Requiem (1863) on a text by Friedrich Hebbel, which tells us that the soul should not forget the dead, because they still float around us. This same image is depicted in the Requiem. (1922/23) by the Italian composer Ildebrando Pizzetti is almost literally depicted by the fleeting sound lines that frame the original Dies irae text. Herbert Howells chooses his own English texts for his Requiem (1935) and in the transparent, wonderful harmonies and subtle lines we see, as it were, sunlight through a stained glass window sliding over the whitewashed wall of the church.
The young English composer Kerensa Briggs drew her inspiration for Media vita (2015) from the early 16th-century music of John Sheppard, and the text of the Anitifona de Morte in which people are made aware that death is omnipresent, and we must adapt our lives to it.
"Requiem Aeterna" is a beautiful program with moody and comforting music.
