About event
Staged reading with musical accompaniment. Debate with the author.
Old wisdom says "know yourself and you will know God". But what if everything we discover and think about ourselves and our desires is just a myth masterfully woven by us? A conversation about desire and love between the Sufi musician "Shamsuddin" and the young, purposeful Salma from the novel by Ríma Báli, this year's finalist of the International Prize for the Arabic Novel (IPAF).
Scenic reading in Czech and conversation in Arabic with interpretation into Czech.
Free entry.
Ríma Báli was born in Aleppo. After studying at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Aleppo, she worked in the tourism industry and managed a hotel in the historic area of old Aleppo. She also spent the first years of the war there before moving to Madrid in 2015. She has written four novels to date, the penultimate of which, 2022's Sulaiman's Ring, was shortlisted for the International Arabic Novel Prize (IPAF) and is set between Aleppo and Toledo, Spain. Excerpts from the novel were translated by Petr Felčer.
