About event
🏛️ We invite you to the opening of the exhibition FAMILY FACTS: A picture of the life of Bratislava families, which will guide visitors in the footsteps of nine important bourgeois families and one noble one and reveal how their lives shaped the shape of the city from the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century.
objects, photographs and personal documents, primarily from the depositories of the Bratislava City Museum.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ Through strong human stories, the exhibition enables a better understanding of the historical events of the 19th and 20th centuries, which were intertwined with the lives of these families. One of its key goals is to reveal hidden stories and taboo topics - without nostalgic distortion.
⊹ ࣪ ˖ The exhibition critically reflects the historical identity of Bratislava and focuses not only on successes, but also on obstacles, such as Aryanization, post-war expropriation or expulsion of its own inhabitants. It also points out that Bratislava has always been a city of changing identities.
🕰️ It represents the hybrid identities of Prešpork - multilingualism, name changes and "transitional identities" between the German, Hungarian and (Czecho)Slovak communities. It thus offers visitors the opportunity to understand that homogeneity of identity is a myth and that globalization is a natural part of the city's history.
🏛️ Therefore, the exhibition not only draws us into history, but also shows that the problems and situations faced by our ancestors are not so different from those we face today. It is an opportunity to get to know the history of the city from a new, more personal perspective.
