📢 Czech democracy demands our attention!
On Sunday, November 17, we will commemorate 35 years of Czech (and Slovak) democracy. And when else than at this historical moment, should we be reminded that although our democracies face problems and structural deficiencies, we must take care of them all the more! We can see how quickly institutions can begin to collapse under the onslaught of authoritarian pressures, for example in Hungary or Slovakia. That is why the time has come to once again and unitedly stand up for Czech democracy!
🙅 Let's together express a clear NO to the election year 2025 bringing the silent onset of authoritarianism in our country!
Why now ?
Across Europe we are observing the rise of self-governing influences and growing efforts to undermine democratic values. For almost three years now, the attacked Ukraine has had to defend itself against Putin's Russia, which is waging a disinformation war with the rest of Europe as well. In the vast majority of European countries, we can observe the rise of extremism, and in recent months we have witnessed the disintegration of the rule of law in our neighbors in Slovakia.
The Czech Republic has one year left until the parliamentary elections in 2025. So we have less than twelve months to unite and show that we will not follow the authoritarian path of our Central European neighbors. We want to remain the democratic heart of Europe! ❤️
That is why we are calling a demonstration on the Old Town Square on the Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy. Together we will appeal to all democratic forces: let's remain a positive example in Central Europe!
🤝 Come with us to show that democracy is not a matter of course, but a commitment that we must take care of every day. Let's make it clear that we will not let the maybe imperfect but still free democracy that we fought for 35 years ago be taken away!
