Romantik Zdeněk Fibich

The concert entitled Romantik Zdeněk Fibich takes place on October 28, 2025 from 19:00 in Prague's Vzlet as part of the Musica Florea Bohemia 2025 cycle. >

In 2024, Musica Florea finished the project of performing and recording all of A. Dvořák's symphonies and would like to work in the field of symphonic romantic interpretation dedicated to lesser known or even almost forgotten works. In the Czech Republic, it is primarily the legacy of Zdenek Fibich, who brought his works to romantic ideals more than his famous colleagues. Like Dvořák, Fibich was impressed by R. Wagner's compositional and interpretive approach. It featured extreme "flexible tempo" - i.e. tempo changes that reinforced typical romantic expression without always being written down in sheet music. Not only Dvořák, but Fibich in particular deserves liberation from the grip of non-musical formulas that dominated romantic interpretation in the 20th century. In addition to his melodramas, there are also lesser-known symphonies. In addition to his symphonic work, this project will feature a violin concerto by A. Dvořák with soloist Roman Patočka, who will perform this work in the original romantic style, which will not lack the aforementioned flexible tempo, but also romantic agogy and ornamentation.

Program:

• Zdeněk Fibich: Symphony no. 1, F major, Op. 17
• Antonín Dvořák: Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53
