About event
Roma have been a part of Prešpork's life for centuries. Despite this, their stories often remained on the margins of interest of the general public.
During the tour, we will follow in the footsteps of Roma musicians, craftsmen and families who lived and worked in the streets of the old city and its suburbs. We will get to know the gledes issued by the monarchs and places connected with everyday life, work and culture. At the same time, we will remember their contribution to the diverse and multi-ethnic form of the former Prešpork.
Part of the tour will also be a memory of the tragic period of the Second World War and the Roma Holocaust, which forever marked the fate of thousands of Roma in Europe, including the inhabitants of Slovakia. Through specific places and stories, we will try to bring closer not only the lesser-known chapters of the city's history, but also the fate of the community, which was an integral part of its life for many centuries.
The tour offers a view of Bratislava from a lesser-known perspective and reminds that the history of the city was not only created by monarchs, townspeople and nobility, but also by people whose stories often remained unheard.
Participation the tour will also include interesting points and memories of the guide from various Roma communities and locations in Slovakia, which he had the opportunity to visit in the past during his work.
The topic is devoted to the history of the Roma in the city and their place in historical development, without an attempt to idealize or simplify the assessment of the community.
The tour is not financed by any public sources. It is about conveying history to the general public through Bratislava wanders.
