About event

During the Monument Weekend you can take a look at the uniquely sustainably restored Elevator House.

* sold out* - This monument is sold out. Sometimes tickets are canceled. These tickets will automatically become available again. So you can check whether that is the case.

In 1909, architect Michiel Brinkman, known from, among others, the famous Van Nelle Fabriek, was asked to design a head office. The Elevatorhuis, as it was called, arose on the Parklaan, in the middle of the prosperous shipping quarter. It was put into use in 1915 in 1915.

In many areas his design for the Elevator House was very modern. It had central heating and a lift. Neither costs nor effort were spared for the detailing of the building. Stained glass windows, designed by, among others, the famous glass artist Jan Schouten, show the activities of the Graan Elevator Maatschappij. Another carefully worked out detail of the building is on the facade. At the top of this symmetrical façade view, a relief that shows a sailing ship between impressive grain elevators, designed by Bernard Richters and manufactured by "De Porceleyne Fles" in Delft.

In 2022, the elevator house was nominated for the national Open Monument Monument. We have therefore started taking a look and dived deeper into the history of this special building. The resulting special about the Elevator House can be here read!
