The Hotel New York on the Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam is a hotel located in the former management building of the Holland-America line. When the hotel opened in 1993, it was the first new company to settle on the Kop van Zuid. For the Kop van Zuid, there were mainly plans to expand the center to the southern Maasoever. Until that moment the Pier was a largely deserted and very difficult to reach the port industry. With the opening of the Erasmus Bridge in 1996 and Wilhelminaplein metro station in 1997, a fixed connection was created with the center.
Holland-America Line The line service between Rotterdam and New York was founded in 1873. First under the NASM name, which in 1896. In 1900, half a million people had already left for America via Rotterdam, often permanent to build a new life there. In the early 20th century, the management building on the Wilhelminapier was therefore built by the architects Muller, Droogleever Fortuyn and Van der Tak. The head office of the Holland-America line was delivered in 1917 with Jugendstilornaments. A little later the two modest but characteristic turrets were added. The building has the status of a national monument. On November 8, 1971, the last ship in a liner service left from Rotterdam to America.
Hotel New York The hotel that has been located in the old directorial building of the Holland-America Line since 1993 has 72 rooms, including two in the turrets. There are conference rooms and two restaurants in the building. From the pier (and therefore also from the hotel) you have a spectacular view over the Maas and the nearby harbor installations.
