About event

What does a violinist do who doesn't like Gustav Mahler's music? He digs into the man's history and discovers his wife Alma. And decides to write an opera about her.
Ernst Spyckerelle is not only a masterful violinist and composer, but also a masterful storyteller.
Alma Mahler turns out to be a woman with many faces and great charisma. She is also a composer herself. Alma appeals to the imagination so much that a new biography about her is published every ten years and each time a different Alma is analyzed. A woman who paints a picture of herself in her diaries and Spyckerelle wonders whether it is true. Why did all those great artists fall in love with her (in addition to Mahler, for example, the painter Kokoschka, the architect Gropius and the writer Werfel)? What can we learn from this? What story do we tell about ourselves and how will people view us in the future? The hidden page will premiere on October 17 in the Muziekgebouw. But you can experience a small preview in the Torpedo Theater with soprano Ekaterina Levental (Alma) and pianist Francisco Martí. Sandra Rottenberg interviews, Pieter Klop plays piano.
