Rotterdam unraveled ... "is an interactive program in the middle of the city and together with a team of two supervisors, a storyteller and discussion leader, exposes the structures, backgrounds and references of centuries of colonialism. It shows how this past works in the super diverse city of today. Because 1 in 8 Rotterdammers has ancestors who were once slaved. In addition to sharing knowledge, insights and anecdotes, this interactive program is an invitation to discuss a city where everyone feels at home.

against the historic backdrop of the Haringvliet dives Rotterdam ... in the colonial history of the city, in the middle of the former center of colonial power and trade. Here were, among other things, the West India Company, Admiralty on the Maze, sugar refineries and the houses of colonial elite such as slave trader Jacob Coopstad. But not only in the area around Haringvliet was benefited, it was also the place where the first Rotterdam protests against the slavery system sounded, at St Mary's Church. An important part of the Rotterdam history that tells us a lot about the present.

rotterdam unraveled ... is a partnership of the Cultuurschool, Urbanguides and Rutu Rotterdam, commissioned by Stichting Je Moenten.
