About event

We invite you to the lecture "Russian emigration in interwar
Czechoslovakia", which will be delivered at PED MUNI by PhDr. Dana Hašková from the Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. 🙂

The lecture will take place on Monday 2 December 2024, from 16:00 at RUV
(PED MUNI, Poříčí 9, -1st floor). 🙂

Dana Haškova received the Medal of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for exceptional research this year as one of the six awarded this year.
🏅 Specifically, the Vojtěch Náprstek Medal for the popularization of science, for his research into the history of emigration from the former Russian Empire to interwar Czechoslovakia. With her work, Dr. Hašková not only brings the stories of emigrants to the public, but also their cultural, scientific and social contribution. It draws attention to hitherto little-known chapters of Czechoslovak history. "Unfortunately, her work reminds us once again of the current issues of solidarity and the contribution of refugee support, which is particularly important in the light of current events," highlighted Eva Zažímalová, the award-winning president of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in her speech.

📕 The topic of Russian interwar emigration was addressed, among other things, in the publication "Interwar Russian emigration and SLÚ", which was published in the edition of Science around us and is also available online 👉 http://www.vedakolemnas.cz/.../galerie.../VKN_89_web.pdf< /a>

📖 Or in the book "Personalities of emigration from the territory of the Russian Empire in interwar Czechoslovakia", which this year was awarded the title Dictionary of the Year by the Union of Czech Interpreters and Translators and which in this year's Prize The Academia publishing house won in the Dictionary or encyclopedic publication category. What will the doctor's lecture focus on? 👉
The Bolshevik coup in Russia in 1917 and the subsequent civil wars led to mass emigration of the population from the territory of the former Russian Empire. At that time, part of these emigrants headed to the newly established Czechoslovak Republic, which provided them with extensive, state-controlled aid, unique in the world. The so-called The Russian aid campaign focused on helping the disabled, orphans and the elderly. However, the main task of the Russian Aid Action was to ensure the education of
emigrants and support the pedagogical, cultural and scientific work of emigrants. With the support of the government and President T. G. Masaryk, schools and scientific
and cultural institutions were established in Czechoslovakia for emigrants, in which they could develop their activities.
From the mid-1920s, the number of emigrants in Czechoslovakia gradually decreased. Others fled before the arrival of the Red Army in 1945. After the February coup in 1948, some
of them stopped reporting their emigrant past. The former cohesion of the emigrant community thus ceased to exist at this time.

Don't hesitate and come - it will also be possible to join online.

We look forward to seeing you! 😊
