About event
🇨🇿
British legend Ruts DC (formerly The Ruts) is heading to Prague. On May 12, a band that belongs to the most prominent names of the British punk scene of the late 70s and which from the beginning combined the energy of punk with the influences of reggae and dub will perform at the Rock Café.
The Ruts were formed in 1977 in West London. The lineup consisted of singer Malcolm Owen, guitarist Paul Fox, bassist John "Segs" Jennings and drummer Dave Ruffy. They soon drew attention to themselves with the single "In a Rut" and support from the legendary DJ John Peel on BBC Radio 1. The real breakthrough came in 1979 with the album The Crack and the hit "Babylon's Burning", which reached the UK Top 10. The band quickly built a reputation thanks to strong singles such as "Something That I Said", "Staring at the Rude Boys" or "Jah War".
In However, frontman Malcolm Owen died tragically in 1980. The remaining members decided to continue under the name Ruts DC ("da capo" - from the beginning) and delved even more into reggae and dub in their music, for example on the albums Animal Now (1981) or Rhythm Collision Vol. 1 with producer Mad Professor.
After reuniting in 2007, the band is again performing concerts all over the world and still reminds why they are among the most influential names in British punk.
Arrogant Twins will perform as support, who will also celebrate 10 years on the scene!
