About event
Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden returns to Dvořák's Prague after seven years. Its tradition dates back to 1548 and ranks it among the oldest orchestras in the world. Since the 2024/25 season, her chief conductor has become Daniele Gatti (by the way a frequent guest of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), who replaced Christian Thielemann in this position after 12 years.
Composer Richard Wagner described the Dresden Orchestra as his "miraculous harp" and we can enjoy his extraordinary sound on Wednesday 14th September in the Dvořák Hall of Rudolfinum. With Kirill Gerstein, Schumann's piano concert will be performed in the second part of the evening with the fifth symphony of Gustav Mahler with the famous Adagiett, Mahler's love song without the words of his wife Alma, according to period testimony to "the most beautiful woman of Vienna". Piano concert and minor, op. 54
Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 5 cis Moll
