SAKHI - A Story of Friendship Through Bharatanatyam

SAKHI is a Bharatanatyam offering by four friends - a journey of friendship, devotion, quiet joy, and the strength of womanhood.

Bharatanatyam is one of India’s oldest classical dance forms, an expressive art of rhythm, storytelling, and devotion. Rooted in tradition, it unfolds rich emotions and timeless stories through precise movements and music.

SAKHI- the ones within is a Bharatanatyam production directed and produced by Sri Lavanya Subramaniam. Four dancers come together to explore not only the joy and devotion of dancing side by side, but also the deeper archetypes that live within us, the protectors, rebels, lovers, creators, and destroyers. Through their shared steps, rhythms, and expressions, they bring to life the warmth, playfulness, and devotion that blossom when kindred spirits dance side by side.

While the individual pieces may explore a variety of themes, styles, and moods, some traditional, some contemporary, the spirit of friendship and collaboration remains the heart of the production. SAKHI invites you to witness not just dance, but the simple joy of coming together, sharing space, and moving as one.

This is not just a performance; it is a celebration of the connection between dancers, tradition, and the timeless rhythms that bind us all, brought alive with the presence of live music. Join us for an evening of Bharatanatyam that honors heritage, explores diverse expressions, and celebrates friendship in motion.

SAKHI is presented as part of an open call by Kapelle 99.

We warmly invite you to join us on this journey. Come share the joy, devotion, and vibrant energy of SAKHI. Experience the beauty of Bharatanatyam as these four friends celebrate their connection through movement and music. Your presence will add to the celebration.
