The Trnava Chamber Orchestra opens the tenth season of the ARCO festival with a concert on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. The concert called Sacred Symbiosis will take place in the premises of the Franciscan Church of St. Jakub in Trnava.
The first part of the concert consists of the world premiere of the cantata VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS for solo voices and a smaller orchestra, dedicated to the 10th edition of the festival by composer Ľuboš Bernáth. In it, the author tries to connect old art with contemporary art and revive musical archetypes that can connect both worlds very vividly and actively. Soprano Hilda Gulyás and violist Laura Uhorskaiová will perform together in the key vocal parts of this work.
Hilda GULYÁS is a recognized specialist in sacred repertoire. Her performance is based on a unique education in singing, musicology and theology, which allows her to bring extraordinary depth and historical fidelity to the music. During her career so far, she has performed as a soloist on stages in Europe, the USA and the Middle East. Laura UHORSKAIOVÁ specializes in early music and is currently studying at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno.
The second part of the evening we will listen to the iconic STABAT MATER by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. This work, which the author completed just a few hours before his untimely death in 1736, became the most published score of the 18th century and also influenced masters such as Bach and Mozart.
A great attraction for the audience is the casting of a rare male voice - the countertenor. Matej BENDA, who studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, possesses a unique vocal technique typical of the Baroque era. His voice sounds in a surprisingly high position, which gives the compositions an authentic and unrepeatable character. Matej Benda has a solo album of Handel's arias.
The TRNAV CHAMBER ORCHESTRA under the direction of Alžbeta Ševečková will perform together.
