Czech Republic / Slovenia 2000 109 min
Director: David Ondříček

Seven young people experience events over the course of several days that will radically affect their future lives. The radio host of a small Prague radio, Petr, breaks up with his longtime girlfriend Hanka. The neurotic doctor Ondřej, who has been chasing the girl for years with his intrusive attention, wants to get her for himself. However, Ondřej's wife Lenka refuses to accept that the father of her children could betray their neat petty-bourgeois life. The destinies of both couples are also affected by the fragile Macedonian barmaid Vesna searching for her lost father in Bohemia, the cynical manipulator Robert and the devoted marijuana lover Jakub. The contrast to the destinies of lonely young people, who are more or less successfully trying to find out about themselves, is formed by Hančina's settled parents and a group of Japanese tourists eager to get to know a "typical" Czech family... The authors tell the stories of loners in the middle of the crowd, who feel helplessly dragged by a malevolent fate inside their economically comfortable lives.
