About event
Almost 60 years ago, in January 1966, Barcelona welcomed a historic concert: Duke Ellington Orchestra acted in the Palau de la Música Catalan. The shaking was such that the concert promoter, Joan Roselló - also the owner of the Jamboree - decided to launch the same autumn then the so -called International Jazz Festival of Barcelona. To celebrate that historical moment, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band - which this year has been invited to the Essentially Ellington contest, the only European band that has received this invitation from Jazz at Lincoln Center and Wynton Marsalis - proposes an anthological tour of the work of one of the great musicians of history, Edward Kennedy Duke Ellington. Under the direction of Joan Chamorro and with new arrangements that will be released that day, time to take the train (it is a metaphor, they already understand us) that takes us to another historical night in the Palau in charge of the best young big band in the world.
