About event
An allegory on the theme of the search for perfection.
In 2023, 300 years have passed since the death of an important Czech architect of Italian origin, who became famous for his unique style called Baroque Gothic, Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. The Jedl theater association has prepared the Santini project for this anniversary.
In 2021, it will be launched with a premiere in Santini's first building, in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Sedlec near Kutná Hora. Only a twenty-five-year-old artist was entrusted with the reconstruction of the largest church in the Czech lands at the time. The monumental, originally Gothic monastery church of the Assumption of Mary lay in ruins for more than two centuries after being looted by Hussite troops. The intention of the authors is to map Santini's important realizations in the territory of Bohemia and Moravia through a theatrical intervention in the space of the building. In the course of the following years, the production will thus take place in many other Santini buildings.
Santini's buildings as a dematerialized tangle of lines through which light penetrates. Buildings articulating the obviousness of the world. This symbolic character of Santini's architecture internally corresponds with the artistic tendencies of the Jedl group. The artists of Jedlo try to touch the spiritual dimension of the world, man, and relationships between people in their productions. The Santini project thus organically continues these efforts.
