About event

What if old satellites and rocket debris in orbit were not just space junk, but a valuable source of material? 🛰️Space activities are entering a new era, in which sustainability, service and recycling are increasingly being talked about right in orbit.

📡At the lecture, we will look at the concept of circular space economy - from the problem of space waste to a vision of the future in which satellites can be repaired, reused or obtained material from them for new constructions. 🤔

🧠 You will also learn how Slovak research contributes to these solutions, including technologies for connecting and processing materials in space or autonomous cooperation of space systems.
Come and discover what a sustainable future of space can look like.

Lecturer:
Marek Gebura is a materials engineer working at the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics SAS in Bratislava. In his research, he mainly focuses on materials joining and processing technologies for demanding technical applications, including space systems.
He is also a co-founder of the Slovak space technology initiative Space scAvengers, which focuses on solutions for handling space waste and autonomously cooperating space systems.
His work is focused on the development of technologies that in the future could enable satellite repairs, service and recycling of objects directly in orbit, thus contributing to a more sustainable use of space.
