"The train stopped between stations. There was no report. First came fear. Then something vague, a barely audible noise. Some began to smile without knowing exactly why. When the subway arrived at the station, the passengers got off without They started dancing around the curbs, peering around the pillars. Was it a glitch? Or something we don't have a name for?" critical pedagogy. He is inspired by moments when the everyday reality of the city slightly deviates from its normal logic and reveals layers of relationships that usually remain hidden. Such "glitches", which she intentionally creates with the aim of pointing out cracks in urban planning, not only disrupt the established order of space, but open up new ways of reading and imagining it.

For the case study of the Nusel Valley, the author connects field research, performative situations and collective experience. The valley, shaped by the monumental infrastructure of the Nuselské bridge and the highway, is a place of contrasts between planned functionality, everyday use and layers of local memory. Through speculative fiction that grows out of concrete experiences and observations, it creates a space for listening to what normally remains on the sidelines in the image of the city.

Part of the exhibition intervention is the author's reading from the book Whispers of the Valley and a suburban camp for children. Together they form an open narrative about the Nusel Valley. About its well-known and overlooked places, about the possibilities of shared experience of the space and how the city can be told anew.

Then something indistinct, without knowing why, the passengers stepped out, hopping into the bushes again. Was it a glitch? name?”

Savka Marenić’s exhibition is based on her book Whispers of the Valley (Šepoty údolí) and her artistic doctoral research, which explores how situated storytelling can become a spatial intervention, an invitation to participation, and a tool of critical pedagogy. It is inspired by moments when the everyday reality of the city subtly shifts from its ordinary logic, revealing layers of relationships that usually remain hidden. Such “glitches,” which Marenić also deliberately creates in order to draw attention to gaps within urban planning, do not merely disrupt the established order of space but open up new ways of reading and imagining it.

Using the Nusle Valley as a case study, the artist brings together field research, performative situations, and collective experience. Shaped by the monumental infrastructure of the Nusle Bridge and the city highway, the valley is a site of contrasts between planned functionality, everyday use, and layers of local memory. Through speculative fiction rooted in concrete experiences and observations, Marenić creates space for listening to what usually remains at the margins of the city's image.

The exhibition intervention includes readings from Whispers of the Valley, and a suburban day camp for children. Together, these activities form an open narrative about the Nusle Valley — its familiar and overlooked places, the possibilities of experiencing space collectively, and how the city can be narrated anew.

The publication was developed at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) with the support of UMPRUM Press’s publishing department. The exhibition intervention is an outcome of the etc. gallery residency program and was supported by the Specific University Research funding provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic for 2026. The project is further supported financially by the City of Prague and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
