About event

Merel Vercammen violin | Ralph van Raat piano | Konstantyn Napolov percussion

In this program, Merel Vercammen is inspired by the collaboration between modern music specialist pianist (and pilot) Ralph van Raat and percussionist Konstantyn Napolov in the program “Paintings from an exhibition”. An extensive percussion set-up with different sounds, small, large and exotic instruments (from vibraphone to Thai gongs) come together with beautiful melodies on piano and violin.

The theme of collecting and its importance of art play a leading role in this program. The name of the program comes from Modest Mussorgsky's famous and history-rich classical masterpiece “Paintings from an Exhibition”, the arrangement was created especially for this program and takes center stage. The piano and percussion open doors to the magical world of the exhibition and take listeners to the musical promenade walk in the Academy of Arts, where we can experience the old castle, the Limoges market and the ballet of unhatched chicks.< br/>
In addition to Mussorgsky, several commissioned works are on the program, such as the work “The Collectors” by the leading German composer Moritz Eggert. He shows and hears the vision of collections in our times – the composer himself is also addicted to collecting in real life. It is a special sound journey where the pianist plays not only the grand piano, but also the Toy piano, Swiss cowbell, Kazoo and much more in combination with 65 percussion instruments - talking about collections...
