SCHILLER
Freedom is only in the realm of dreams
"Appearances rule the world, and justice is only on the stage."
The poet's words, written over two hundred years ago, have lost none of their validity. On the contrary! They are more relevant today than ever before.
Schiller, who dealt with the questions of an ideal form of society throughout his life and also incorporated the criticism of the one that existed at the time into his philosophical treatises, but above all into his poetry, put fiery messages in the mouths of his famous characters. Johanna, Marquis Posa, Fiesko, Maria Stuart and Schiller himself have their say here.
Excerpts from the dramas "The Maid of Orleans", "Don Carlos, Infante of Spain", "The Conspiracy of Fiesco in Genoa", "Maria Stuart", a selection of poems, ballads and thoughts from prose writings, which also use the concepts of "beauty" and "Love" in relation to freedom and social development is illuminated in an eloquent collage that is intended to reflect the timelessness of Schiller's thoughts and views. A monument to the "Poet of Freedom" should be erected here in the true sense.
Cora Chilcott
