About event
What was the fate of the Roma and Sinti after 1945? And why do we know so little about them?
Conversations with leading Czech Romani women will take you from the experiences of genocide survivors through the period of state policy of forced assimilation to the efforts of Roma and Sinti to assert their place in society and in the memory of history.
Discussed by:
🎤 Helenou Sadílková (Romani Studies FF UK)
🎤 Renatou Berkyová (Institute of History FF UK and Institute of Contemporary History AS CR)
Moderated by: Filip Rambousek (Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Prague)
On the basis of historical and Roma research, it will be reflected how the Roma negotiated their position in society and collective memory, including the long-neglected the fight for the recognition of the Roma Holocaust and the dignified commemoration of its victims. You will learn why it is important to see Roma and Sinti as actors of history despite the dominant understanding of their position in Czechoslovak history in the 20th century as victims of marginalization and persecution.
Come and discuss the past, which is still relevant.
