Sendreiovci gypsy band

The Sendrei Gypsy Band comes from the village of Kokava nad Rimavicou and was founded by the spouses Vladimír and Jana Sendrei in 2001. Their original name was Kokavakere Lavutár. The band's style is based on an authentic Roma tradition - it combines energetic and emotional songs that bring to the cultural awareness of the general public, especially due to the lack of representation of Roma music in the media. The Sendrei family is actively involved in cultural and educational activities, working with the civic association of Líč Drom and are involved in projects of preservation of Roma musical traditions, including the Balvalfest festival and presentations in Roma communities. Their work was also interested in the film composer Hans Zimmer - the music of the Sendrei family appeared in the soundtrack of Sherlock Holmes: and Game of Shadows and also in the Czech film Roming. Moreover, singer Jana Sendreiová achieved a significant international success when she performed in the famous Carnegie Hall in New York, accompanied by the Roma group Anyalai Gypsy Band in 2005.
